What We Are Working on

Web Design System

Important: BETA means Do. Not. Use. in production.

  • (BETA) WDS 3.0: (BETA) WSU Web Design System 3.0 is available for testing on a stage site. Activate the (Beta) WSUWP Plugin WSU Options. You can preview the new theme in Customize or select the theme. You can switch back to WDS 2.0 and changes made in WDS 3.0 will not be in WDS 2.0.
Submit a General Help Web Support Ticket if you want to test WDS 3.0 on your stage site.
  • Carousel: Work continues on the Carousel block by adding more options to use in the carousel and cleaning the editing interface.
  • Hero Banner with White Background: A behind-the-text white background option is added to the Hero Banner block.
  • WSUWP Gutenberg Accessibility: Updated to fix the glitch and the panel and icons. Plus, updates to the WSUWP Gutenberg Accessibility plugin training page.

Glitch List

  • Overlay Spotlight: It is having a little overlapping issue on smaller screens.
  • TablePress: A couple of glitches to look at: Crimson border on each table, hover on non-interactive headers, and horizontal scrolling ignores the full-width settings on the table.

Submit a web support ticket to Report a Bug/Issue if you find a glitch.

Byte Size Tutorial

  • Audience Menu: Audience menus have a different purpose than the main site menu. For the main site menu, people are looking at it with an “I want” perspective and the menu item should reflect that answer, “I want training.” The audience menu, created in Menus, uses the Menu Name to indicate the perspective you want people to interact with the menu. For example a menu name of “Resources for”:” indicates the perspective is “I am” instead of I want.
  • Acronyms: Spell out the acronym on its first instance on the webpage with the acronym in parentheses. Then use the acronym on the rest of the page.
  • File Name: Using the right file names for documents or images is important for Search Engine Optimization but more importantly for people when they’ve downloaded the file. Who can find 286AEQ1.pdf? Or who needs to know that mona_lisa_finalrealupdateFINALL6.jpg is the final final final version?

Resources

  • Breadcrumb NavXT: Breadcrumb NavXT resources, how-tos, and settings to use to make an accessible breadcrumb on your website.
  • Open in New Tab: When using links that open into a new tab note the three reasons to avoid using them and how to use them successfully.
