Oct 28 Open Lab Notes: Project & WDS Updates, Glitch List, & Duplicate Pages

What We Are Working on

Projects Websites

  • pullman.wsu.edu: Finalizing content and beginning build.
  • admissions.wsu.edu: More progress but nothing to show yet.

Web Design System

  • Developer Settings: The Additional Advanced Settings is relabeled to Developer Settings. Under Advanced there is a toggle to display the Developer Setting.
    Project Lead: Danial Bleile
  • Horizontal and Vertical options on Card Block and Card List Block: The Card block and Card List block provides two display options, vertical and horizontal. Horizontal offers a space for the image that is 25%, 33%, or 50% of the column. There is a toggle to reverse the image location from left to right.
    Project Lead: Matt Davis
  • ARIA Label added to Buttons: An aria-label is now available on the button block. This field is optional. You would use it when button text is not description enough and unique, like Read More or Apply.

Projects

  • People Directory: We are getting closer to completing the first part (integrating more functionality for a people directory within a website) and hope to have a demo at the next Open Lad on Nov, 4, 2022.
    Project Lead: Dan White

Glitch List

  • People Directory (people.wsu.edu): Adding people is case sensitive. Please use all lowercase letters when adding someone to the site.
    Use: butch.cougar
    Don’t Use: Butch.Cougar
Glitch Status: Patience, we’re getting right to it. Submit a web support ticket for general help if you think you have a duplicate profile.
  • People Block: People are encountering an error when editing a page with a People block on it. UGH! Please use Safari, FireFox, or Chrome in incognito. If you run into problems with editing the page try clearing their cache in Chrome.
Glitch Status: Ugh! We are working on it.
  • People Block and Gallery Block: having both of these on a page causes a similar issue as just the People block but clearing the cache or using incognito does not remove the error message.
Glitch Status: Danial is on it!

Byte Size Tutorial

  • Checking Heading Levels: There are two browser add-ons you can use to check the heading levels of a site, Web Developer and HeadingsMap (Chrome & FireFox).
