As I begin work on developing custom Gutenberg blocks, we thought it would be a good idea to share where Gutenberg currently stands. This will be a good opportunity to see how it works out of the box and hopefully once we start rolling out our own blocks you’ll see how we’ve modified the editing experience to best meet the needs of the editors.

SEO Keywords are words and word groups that allow people to find a website through a search engine like Google or Bing. Having an effective keyword strategy can significantly improve your ranking on search engines and increase the traffic to your site. For this open lab we will cover what keywords are, how to use them, and some basic keyword management strategies.

We recently added Google XML Sitemaps to our WSUWP Plaftorm to enable site administrators to create and manage XML sitemaps. For this weeks open lab we will demo how to activate the plugin and configure it for your site!

Open Lab for April 12th, 2019

Topic: Brainstorming session on SEO for the WSUWP Platform and WSU websites.

For open lab this Friday we’d like to spend some time discussing search engine optimization needs for WSU websites. Specifically we’d like to hear from you what tools, features, and training you think would be beneficial to improving SEO on your site(s).

If you have any questions about SEO or general website support Open Lab is a great place to bring them!

Web Communication Team Update

To ensure continuity on all the great web work already underway, Danial Bleile will serve as the interim technical lead for the WSU web communication team. In addition to his current responsibilities as the senior WordPress developer, he also will manage the priorities of the web communication unit as well as oversee the newly formed web governance team.

Jason Bittle will serve as the lead designer for the new web design system. Eric Limburg and Danial Bleile will partner closely with Jason to continue the positive momentum that already has been done on this important effort.

Thank you to Danial, Jason and Eric for taking on these additional responsibilities. I will reach out again as we get closer to determining a permanent solution for the web communication team lead. As always, weekly open lab sessions will continue to be scheduled every Friday morning at 9:30am. Please contact our Jira Service Desk if you have any questions or issues.
